When Siddhartha Gautama turned up from the river where he had almost died, he knew, he had discovered, that he had everything he needed; he lacked nothing. He turned back into life itself. He had done all the doing, and no more doing, no more renunciation was needed. If this life was complete somehow, why not just sit down and let it meet him as he was?
And so he sat down, and stayed there. He was sure that the solution to the fundamental problem of suffering was present, with him. That he would wake to it.
So, it seems to me, why not put ourselves in that place with him, if we wish to celebrate his life-changing discovery? Why not sit down together, with all of our own determination and confidence in life’s completeness, and our willingness to believe that we actually have what we need?
Let’s do this. We’ll sit down and be together, in the simplest silence, and simply walk when we walk, and eat when we eat, and let the stillness and the silence deepen as we rest ourselves in the largesse of the moment, breath after breath.
What might that be like? What do we discover?
In the evening, after a long stretch of this very basic meditation, we’ll come together around the fire to share our field notes and musings.
Deadline for registration November 30th.
Retreat fee is $65 and includes vegetarian dinner.
Lunch is brown bag.
