At the conclusion of SMS’s late summer book study of Rhonda McGee’s Inner Work of Racial Justice we asked the question, how do we keep our BLM momentum going? Last month’s ecodharma focus continued the energy with the topic of food insecurity and systemic poverty and actions we can take. This month is the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., and our sangha member, Percy Pellerin, has generated lots of momentum and enthusiasm about the Jan 18 event. So it feels magically perfect to introduce Pixar’s Soul for movie night. And who to better present an animated film within the context of magic than Disney/Pixar. Love ’em or not, Soul is Disney’s first film ever in which the lead is an African American character. Joe is quite the bodhisattva and seems to stroll along in life perhaps not seeing his own Yunmen’s lamp like most of us. It’s a film for everyone. Additionally it continues our movie journey with regard to music and what’s behind it? What is music as it relates to each of us individually  and as a whole. Finally how about it as a form of transmission of expression from a period of time with regard to origin and even point of reference?

Listen to musician and activist Jon Batiste, who plays the music in the film, says of Soulhttps://youtu.be/dURChpQr6MQ

If you want a tad more insight from the creators, actors, producers and other musicians of the film, here’s that without spoiling the movie:
