Cultivating the Tao:
Tao Te Ching
A practice series with Andrew Palmer, Sensei
As we did last year, we’ll again ease our way into autumn by spending time exploring, enjoying and abiding with a Taoist classic – the Tao Te Ching this time around. This is not a study group but more of an inviting of the words and teachings into our lives, keeping company with them, allowing them to infuse our days and nights, and coming together regularly to share our experiences and discoveries. Rather than work straight thought the chapters, each week I’ll provide selections sharing a common theme that we will read and re-read, take for a walk through our lives, play with, and notice what happens when we simply welcome them in. The opening lines of YongJia Xuanjue’s Song of Realizing the Way come to mind when I think of the spirit of this practice series:
There is someone at peace,
walking in the Tao, beyond theories,
not fleeing delusion, not seeking truth.
Any version of the Tao Te Ching will do. I’ve been working primarily with Red Pine’s translation while looking into others as well, and will provide resources you can use in addition to any version you may already have. The initial selections will be sent out a week ahead of our first gathering, along with suggestions for working with them, so please sign up by August 15.Saturdays,
