Winter koan series starts January 24 via Zoom. All are welcome!

Please join us for our winter six week koan series on Wednesday evenings beginning January 24 at 7 pm MT/6 PT. With Sarah Bender, Tenney Nathanson, and Megan Rundel. By donation.

For this series, we will take as our starting point Joan’s series of talks called “Self and Soul.” Those talks will be distributed via Joan’s subscription service, which is available on a sliding fee scale here:

We encourage you to begin listening to the talks as preparation for the series.

In this series, we will take up koans and teachings that explore the nature of the self, the province of the soul, and their connection to spirit. All are welcome, please join us!

We encourage you to begin listening to the talks as accompaniment for the series.

A note from Sarah:

In this first session, we’ll open the field for our exploration with an evening of koan meditation.

Joan writes about the “Self & Soul” talks :

The self can feel like a fragmentary conglomeration of body, soul, spirit, heart, and mind : at best, a conversation; at worst, conflict. But each part has its own wisdom, and together this constellation of viewpoints can provide strength and the creativity to navigate difficult times. These talks explore some foundational buddhist philosophy and psychology in a fresh and accessible way, including a kindly rehabilitation of the much-maligned but essential self.
