Intro to Zen

incorporating a possible half-day retreat TBA
This four week series of 1.5 hour zoom classes will be taught by Springs Mountain Sangha members, Regan Arntzen & Debbie Stavish with the support of Sarah Bender, Roshi. The class is offered as dana to community and is taught from the perspective of beginner introduction to Zen practice and the koan tradition. All members are invited to support the class from this perspective, and it’s an opportunity to learn the basics of our tradition anew. To register please contact Regan: rrarntzen@gmail.com
Brief Agenda:
- Week One:
- Introductions, What is Zen?, Posture & meditation, History of Zen, Share observations
- Week Two:
- Walking meditation, Koan introduction, The Buddha, The Dharma, The Sangha; The Four Boundless Vows, The Bodhisattva’s Vow
- Week Three:
- Guided meditation, Introduction to The Precepts, Expectations to consider at this point
- Week Four:
- Setting up a home altar, 3 Treasures, Who is SMS?, What have we noticed thus far? Pocket Koans
Note: there will be a one day Open Source retreat, Feb. 21, and all are encouraged to attend. And there may be a half day retreat, aimed at our Intro to Zen Group TBD
