Sumi-e Workshop with Tei Kobayashi

One year ago Tei gave several days of Sumi-e/calligraphy teachings at Bemis Art School when she hung her works in the FAC. She is returning to collect them and has offered to teach here again; this is a wonderful opportunity. Tei’s
I lived in a Taoist temple/center…. the stillpoint of the turning world outside of Manitou Springs after graduating from Colorado College. Gia Fu Feng was the Taoist master and a great calligrapher. I ask if I could study with him and he told me I must live the Taoist life and move to the center/temple. I translated the I Ching studied calligraphy and Taichi with Gia Fu and walked 7 hours a day on the Pikes Peak trail. I was already painting and had studied with masters Mary Chenoweth at CC, and painters in Mexico and southern France. From my late teens til my thirties I travel in Europe taking my MFA in Florence Italy at the Villa Schifanoia Graduate School of the Arts. I studied with the calligraphy Sumi-e maters SP Kiang in Denver and Sumi-e artist master Koho Yamamoto in New York. In 1982 I went to Japan to study Japanese pigment gold silver leaf painting…I studied with various calligraphy and Sumi-e artists over the years. Hiroshi Nagano, Hiroyuki Aoyama, Sosen Miyajima. I am active as a site specific contemporary artist and have sculpture in sculpture parks in Lithuania, Mexico and Iceland . I have been exhibiting internationally for over thirty years.
Tei gives attention to each student so classes are limited to 10 people. The first day/evening is for first timers; the second day is for those who have previously studied with Tei.
Teil will bring all supplies and first timers are given a brush. Repeat students, bring your brush.
