other resources / books:
Books:
- Hakuin’s vivid, tongue-in-cheek-to-cut-through-discourse way of bringing the sutra home delights me.
- An Arrow to the Heart: A Commentary on the Heart Sutra by Ken McLeod
- McLeod draws on Hakuin’s methodology and makes it his own, again bringing the sutra home to now.
- The Heart of Understanding: Commentaries on the Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra by Thich Nhat Hanh
- An awful lot of people have found a way into the sutra through this book. It’s explanation, and of an unforgettable sort.
- Heart Sutra: Ancient Buddhist Wisdom in the Light of Quantum Reality by Mu Soeng Sunim
- Essence of the Heart Sutra by Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama
- The Dalai Lama comes at this experience from a couple of different angles together, and the translation here feels a bit different, too.
